Monday, 13 December

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a vote on the Maintenance of International Peace and Security –     Security in the context of terrorism and climate change. This will be followed by a debate on the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT).  In the afternoon, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing on Security Council subsidiary organs, followed by consultations on the Implementation of resolutions 2532 (2020), regarding global ceasefire, and 2565 (2021), concerning vaccine equity.

At noon, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) will launch its Humanitarian Action 2022 Overview.

Today, in Sharm El- Sheikh, Egypt, the COSP9: Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption begins, and it will continue until 17 December,

Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) is expected to release its report on investments in Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).

 

Tuesday, 14 December

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to adopt a resolution linked to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). The Security Council is also scheduled to hold a briefing on the Middle East, followed by consultations on the Middle East (Yemen).

In the afternoon, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing on non-proliferation.

Also, at 10:00 a.m., the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) will hold a virtual briefing on the outcomes of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).

In Geneva, Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m., there will be an Oral update by the High Commissioner for Human Rights on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan. The Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nada Al-Nashif, will present the oral update in person in Room 20 at the Palais des Nations. The meeting will be webcast on  UN Web TV.

At 3 p.m., in Room 20 at the Palais des Nations, there will be an interactive dialogue on the interim oral update by the High Commissioner for Human Rights on the situation of human rights in Nicaragua. The Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nada Al-Nashif, will present the oral update. The meeting will be webcast on  UN Web TV.

 

Wednesday, 15 December

 

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to adopt a resolution linked to the 1267/1989/2253 Committee, concerning Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Da’esh), Al-Qaida and associated individuals, groups, undertakings and entities. Also in the morning, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing, followed by consultations on the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and South Sudan sanctions. This afternoon, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing, followed by consultations on the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA)/ Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).

At 10:00 a.m., at the General Assembly Hall, there will be a joint meeting of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the Peacebuilding Commission on “Promoting durable peace and sustainable development in the context of recovery from COVID-19”.

At 11:30 a.m., the 17th Rafael M. Salas Memorial Lecture “Data and demagoguery: Human rights and development in the disinformation age” will take place. The lecture will be followed by a high-level interactive panel discussion moderated by Sherwin Bryce-Pease, Bureau Chief & Correspondent of SABC News. In addition to Mr. Jordan, other panelists will include Ambassador Yoka Brandt, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations; Mr. Chris Rusatira, a youth activist; and Dr. Natalia Kanem, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and UNFPA Executive Director.

The World Health Organization (WHO) will launch today its report on Global Health Expenditure.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will release its report on Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

In Geneva, at 10:00 a.m., there will be an Oral presentation by the High Commissioner for Human Rights on the findings of the latest OHCHR periodic report on the situation of human rights in Ukraine. The Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nada Al-Nashif, will present the report in Room 20 of the Palais des Nations.

 

Thursday,16 December

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV.   This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

The guest at the noon briefing today will be UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, David Gressly.

 

Friday, 17 December

At 10:00 a.m., in the General Assembly Hall, the General Assembly will hold it 53rd plenary meeting.
