Saturday, 18  December

Today is International Migrants Day.

Today is also Arabic Language Day. 

 

At about 6:45 a.m. (NY time), the Secretary-General will receive the Lamp of Peace award. This award, given by the Sacred Convent of Assisi, in Italy, aims to honour those working to promote peace and harmony. Recent honorees include the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel; the King of Jordan, Abdullah II; and the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella. The Secretary-General will deliver remarks virtually during the ceremony taking place at the Basilica of Saint Francis, in Assisi. Sunday,  19  December

The Secretary-General arrives in Lebanon today for a state visit during which he will meet with Government officials, including President Michel Aoun, Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Najib Mikati, as well as a number of religious and civil society leaders. He will also pay tribute to the victims of the Beirut Port blast and will travel to southern Lebanon to visit the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

 

Monday,  20  December

Today is International Human Solidarity Day.

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to adopt a resolution linked to the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO). The Security Council is also scheduled to hold a briefing on the Middle East, followed by consultations on the Middle East (Syria).

At 7:00 a.m., the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) hosts discussion with Africa’s youth to steer continent towards achievement of SDGs.

At  noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV.   This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

The guest at the noon briefing will be the Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia, Adam Abdelmoula, who will brief on the situation in the country.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will today launch its Somalia Humanitarian Response Plan launch.

 

Tuesday,  21  December

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to adopt a resolution linked to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED). The Security Council is also scheduled to hold a briefing, followed by consultations on the Middle East.

At  noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV.   This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

In Geneva, the UN Information Service will hold its bi-weekly briefing for journalists.
