Monday, 10 January

 

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing, followed by consultations on the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS).

 

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV.   This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

 

The Secretary-General is scheduled to address the World Youth Forum by video message. The Forum is scheduled to take place in Sharm el-Sheikh starting today and until 13 January.

 

In Geneva, at 3:30 p.m., there will be an embargoed press briefing on the Launch of the 2022 humanitarian response plans for Afghanistan and the region. The speakers will be Martin Griffiths, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator and Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees. This briefing will be embargoed until 11 January 2022, at 6 a.m. CET.

 

Today, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is expected to launch its Year in Review Report.

 

Tuesday, 11 January

 

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing, followed by consultations on the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

 

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV.   This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

 

In Geneva, at 11:30 a.m., the 2022 Afghanistan Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) & Refugee Response Plan will be launched.

 

Also in Geneva, the UN Information Service will hold its bi-weekly briefing for journalists.

 

In Paris, UNESCO’s Second International Conference on “Water, Megacities and Global Change”, will take place from 11 to 14 January.

 

Wednesday, 12 January

 

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing on the Middle East, followed by consultations on the Middle East (Yemen). This afternoon, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a TCC meeting on the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

 

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV.   This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

 

In Geneva, at 3:00 p.m., the UN Human Rights Council will hold an organizational meeting to elect one remaining Vice-President from the Eastern European Group (EEG), adopt the multi-annual programme of work, and draw by lot the ‘troikas’ for the Universal Periodic Reviews (UPR) sessions that will be held in 2022. The organizational meeting will take place at the Palais des Nations (room XIX) and will be webcast live.

 

Thursday, 13 January

 

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV.   This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

 

The guests at the Noon Briefing will be Liu Zhenmin, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs along with Hamid Rashid, Chief of the Global Economic Monitoring Branch, Economic Analysis and Policy Division in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). They will brief reporters on the Launch of the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2022. The report will assess the current developments and outlook for the global economy. It is under embargo until that time.

 

Friday, 14 January

 

At 11:00 a.m., the Secretary-General is scheduled to address the Virtual Handover Ceremony of the Chairmanship of the Group of 77.

 

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV.   This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

 

In Geneva, the UN Information Service will hold its bi-weekly briefing for journalists.
