Sunday, 5 June

Today is World Environment Day.

It is also the International Day for the Fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing.

The Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, will be travelling to Central Asia from 5-12 June to represent the Secretary-General at the Second International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action, which is entitled “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028. The conference will take place in Tajikistan on the 7th and 8th of June.  Following invitations from other countries in the region, the Deputy Secretary-General will also visit Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.  She will be returning to New York on 12 June.


Monday, 6 June

Today is Russian Language Day.

This morning, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing on Ukraine.

At 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., in the General Assembly Hall, the General Assembly is scheduled to hold a High- level debate on “Enhancing youth mainstreaming in crime prevention policies”.

At 11:00, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is organizing a virtual Member States and partners humanitarian briefing on Mali.

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

At 3:00 p.m., there will be a hybrid press briefing by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.

In Geneva, the Conference on Disarmament, Part II, continues until 1 July. The 110th Session of the International Labour Conference continues until 11 June.

Also in Geneva, the Conference of Parties for the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS COPs), will begin today and will continue through 17 June. The theme of the meetings is “Global Agreements for a Healthy Planet: Sound management of chemicals and waste”.

 

Tuesday, 7 June

Today is World Food Safety Day.

At 10:00 a.m., in the General Assembly hall, the General Assembly is scheduled to hold its 75th Plenary meeting. On the agenda will be the election of the President of the General Assembly. The Secretary-General is scheduled to deliver remarks at this event.

At 10:00 a.m., there will be a high-level event on the UNODC Strategic Vision for Latin America and the Caribbean 2022-2025. This event is co-organized by the Permanent Missions of Colombia, Dominican Republic, Panama and Peru and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Also at 10:00 a.m., in the Trusteeship Council Chamber, the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is organizing a meeting of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations.

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

At 1:30 p.m., the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is organizing an event entitled “World Environment Day United Nations Headquarters New York Celebration” on the occasion of World Environment Day, marked on 5 June.

This afternoon, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a Troop Contributing Country meeting on the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA)

At 3:00 p.m., in the General Assembly hall, the General Assembly is scheduled to hold a plenary meeting. On the agenda will be an interaction between the United Nations, national parliaments and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, followed by a debate on improving global road safety, as well as integrated and coordinated implementation of and follow-up to the outcomes of the major United Nations conferences and summits in the economic, social and related fields.

In Geneva, the UN Information Service will hold its bi-weekly briefing for journalists.

At 1:00 p.m., in Tajikistan, there will be a Side Event at the 2nd Dushanbe Water Action Decade Conference. This event is being organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) International Centre for Water Security and Sustainable Management (UNESCO i-WSSM).

In Kigali, Rwanda, the World Telecommunication Development Conference begins today and will continue until 16 June.

 

Wednesday, 8 June

Today is World Oceans Day.

This morning the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing, followed by consultations, on the UN Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA) and the Lord’s Resistance Army. This afternoon, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing on the UN Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD).

At 10:00 a.m., in the General Assembly Hall, there will be a plenary meeting on Strengthening of the United Nations system.

At 10:00 a.m., there will be an event entitled “Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean” on the occasion of World Oceans Day. This event is organized by the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea, Office of Legal Affairs.

Also at 10:00 a.m., in the ECOSOC Chamber, there will be an ECOSOC Management Segment, organized by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), which will continue until 9 June.

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

At 3:00 p.m., in the General Assembly Hall, the General Assembly is scheduled to hold a Plenary meeting on Protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development.

In Geneva, at 10:00 a.m., there will be a hybrid press conference by Ambassador Federico Villegas, President of the UN Human Rights Council. He will brief reporters on the 50th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

 

Thursday, 9 June

At 10:00 a.m., in the General Assembly Hall, the General Assembly is scheduled to hold a Plenary meeting for the Election of non-permanent members of the Security Council.

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.

This afternoon, the Security Council is scheduled to hold a Troop Contributing Country meeting on the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF)

At 3:00 p.m., in the General Assembly Hall, the General Assembly is scheduled to hold a Plenary meeting on the implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS and the political declarations on HIV/AIDS.

In Geneva, at noon, there will be a hybrid press conference by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan, and James Zhan, the Director of UNCTAD’s Division on Investment and Enterprise. They will brief reporters on the launch of the World Investment Report 2022 – International Tax Reforms and Sustainable Investment.


Friday, 10 June

At 10:00 a.m., in the General Assembly Hall, the General Assembly is scheduled to hold a plenary meeting. On the agenda will be the Election of members of the Economic and Social Council and Multilingualism.

At 11:00 a.m., there will be a hybrid press briefing by the Permanent Representative of South Africa to the United Nations, Ambassador Mathu Joyini, on preparations for the 6th Annual Peacekeeping Partnership Symposium scheduled for 21 -25 June 2022, in Pretoria, South Africa.

At noon, the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General will hold a press briefing, broadcast live on UN Web TV. This will be followed by a briefing by the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly.
